Youtube: A waste of time or an effective channel?

I have to admit that I was one of those people who just logged in to sites like YouTube in order to watch music videos and stuff and it's awesome! you can find even what you're not looking for, which is the reason why YouTube has become an excellent source of information for everyone, you can find all kind of videos including lessons of all types. Not going any further, This was an excellent way to teach people like me (who's actually learning all this technology things for the very first time) new vocabulary and an excellent way to present new content. YouTube is not a difficult tool to use and yet it can be very helpful and practical, specially taking into account how our society is moving nowadays and how children and teenagers are in contact with technology and personal media 24 - 7 (in some cases much more than the teacher)
This is how it really works, If you are a member of the "YouTube" society you can create your own videos and upload them in order for people to get that information. If people watch your videos, they become "subscribers", according to what I researched, it is going to depend on the amount of subscribers that you get, the fact that you can create your own channel, why is that? In order to get your YouTube channel you have to be a YouTube partner and this is only going to depend on how many people is actually interested in what you have posted. Once you get your channel your options are endless. Try to imagine this applied to a pronunciation class or social studies, it could be the hit!
It is interesting to see all the things you can do with some resources and a lot of creativity which makes me think If we would take advantage of personal media at its maximum level, the sky would be our limit. Unfortunately, the usage of this media has been exposed to unrated and inappropriate material, which means a lot of places have blocked it; but again, my personal opinion is that if we get the right instruction and deliver the right instruction as well, there's nothing to be afraid of.
