The US Department of State's Educational Information and Resources Branch (ECA / A / S / A ) supports a network of more then 450 Education USA Advising Centers which promote US higher educaion around the world.

The Instituto Guatemalteco Americano is the official host of the EducationUSA  Advising Centers in Guatemala City and Quetzaltenango, which are certified EducationUSA centers, and affiliated to the United States Department of State.   We are the only source of such information in Guatemala City and Quetzaltenango, and the office is opened to the general public with no charge.  The main purpose of our centers  is to help the students to take full advantage of opportunities to study abroad.

The Education USA Advinsing Centers conduct such activities as orientation meeting for high school students, excharge students, scholars and university students. The Education USA Advising Center in Guatemala City, also hosts college fairs whereby representatives from recognized American universities come to IGA for a day. This office is the only authorized entity to issue Study Equivalency Certificates for people who have gone through study programs in the U.S. This certificate is approved and accepted by the Ministry of Education of Guatemala.

The Education USA Advising Centers also assist the US Embassy in the application process for the Fillbright / LASPAU Program offered by the government of the United States.
